WMAT&MA NEWS

APRIL / MAY 2004

  • POT LUCK SUPPER / MEETING MARCH 11th was very well attended. A great meal and good fellowship was followed by our annual planning meeting. The office/meeting house was nearly full with only one or two seats open. The “Martens Farm”committee was completed with the appointment of Mutt Reitz and Terry Engle. They are having a planning meeting soon, so farming operations will start very soon. We voted to have the road committee add some rock to the parking circle. A work day was planned for Saturday march 20 to prepare for the swap meet.

  • The BOARD made a decision to become much more aggressive in naming areas and structures at Frontier Village. We have, for many years, been doing that with some roads and buildings but now we will try to be more focused. We now have several structures scheduled for dedicating this year.

  • REPAIRED Don H, Delbert W, and Pat O worked on the electricity malfunction in the Center. It is bright as day in there now. Kevin Johnson fixed our lighting problem in the office.

  • MEMBER LOST. James “Bill” Gray from Pleasant Hill recently passed away. He was 80 years and loved Frontier Village. His favorite thing was driving the trams during the shows.

  • DONATIONS Kenneth Hill gave us enough red tin to finish the horse barn. Evans donated a hammer mill and corn sheller which Steve Doody hauled into the show grounds. Kevin Johnson donated a couple of big lights for our pull track, then Delbert Watts gave us a 30 ft pole so Kevin could mount them. March 23rd, six of us traveled to Virginia, Mo to look at two tractors, a blacksmith shop and a hay baler that Larry Harper has donated to the club. We will go retrieve all of it later in the spring. Dicksie Gray sent us a $50.00 check in memory of her late husband, Bill, to be used where needed.

  • WEBB SITE Our new web site for WMAT MA is getting a lot closer. Kevin Scrogham, of Deems Farm Equip, has volunteered to build a site for us. The site will also have a link to The Adrian Chamber of Commerce Web page. If you have a special picture that you feel should be on the site, get it to Bill Thurman.

  • WORK DAY MARCH 20th was poorly attended with only about 12 bodies showing to get ready for the meet. We did get the place cleaned up a bit and got a few things fixed.

  • SWAP MEET was a great success! We had 51 venders last year and we really increased this year with 71 venders attending. I spoke to many of them and I never found a single one that was unhappy. I’m sure we would have had many more buyers if it had not rained. Our Museum was dedicated during the Meet. We hung the sign on the west wall facing main street. It now reads, “The Alfred Tenholder Museum”.

  • REGULAR MEETING HELD April 8th was attended by about 12 interested persons. Much time was spent discussing the “Marten Farm” project. Seems it is on track. We also decided to not mow the south west corner of the show grounds this year and leave it grow for a hay crop for our horse people. The thought was, the horses being such a big part of the show, the hay crop should be on the grounds.

  • 2004 BUCKLES are in. They look very good, depicting the Floyd Fritts “60" Cat as we are featuring all Crawlers this year. They are silver again this year with two color enamel. They remain $15.00 each and if you want “your” serial number like you have had in the past, get the buckle soon.

  • FARMIN’ Rain dates for the plowing will be every Saturday until it is dry enough to work. Chairman Mutt Reitz is trying to get things moving, but the weather just isn’t cooperating yet. If you have questions, call Mutt at 816 297 4416

  • ON THE WANT LIST Our saw mill chairmen need logs for the summer show. Right now we don’t have anyone able to fall standing trees, but if you know of any logs that is on the ground, we can surely find a way to transport. Also, if you have a log you just need cut to your spec, bring it in. The men are excited about sawing again this year.

  • MISSING The drive shaft is missing from our Land Pride finish mower. If you know who borrowed it, tell them we need it back. The grass is a growing about a foot a day. If it doesn’t show up soon, we will have to buy a new shaft.

  • GAME NIGHT Don’t forget! Every 2nd Saturday evening is “fun night” at the Village. Lots of card playing and other games. And its free. Questions, call Lillian at 816 297 2776.

    Til next time, Don Arndt
