MARCH - APRIL 2006 News Letter

EDITOR: Duane Craig
  • March Business Meeting: Delbert Watts reported that the museum addition was going fine, they were ready to put the tin on. The tin is on order from Iowa, and should be by the 11th of March. Steven reported that the cost of the addition should run approximately $7,000.00.

  • Old Business: Ed Arndt reported that there is some logs which need to be replaced on the north log cabin. It was suggested that Steve Hanson be contacted for technical help, also Jacob Villotte may also be of great help.
Wilfred Helt reported that the show bills should be ready by swap meet time.
Duane Craig reported that the Two Cylinder Tractor Club, Tractor Cruise for the Dream Factory was accepting donations of sponsors. The club agreed that they would donate $100.00 to the Dream Factory Tractor Cruise. The Cruise will be held May 6th in Independence and Jackson County, MO. Go to www.gkctcc.com for more info.

  • New Business: Duane Craig, Don Arndt, and Bill Thurman will look in to the procurement of jail cells from the old Butler Police Dept. (old High School building).
Bill Parrish suggested that we select our feature tractors far in advance of the date of the shows. This will help us in getting more national and regional shows as they book their shows two and three years in advance.
It was decided that the following show dates feature the following: 2007 Oliver, Minneapolis-Moline, Cockshutt, and White; 2008 Massy and the Ferguson Expo; 2009 Massy-Harris; and 2010 International Harvester and the Red Power Roundup.

  • Donations: John Ruehter has donated about 30 gal. of motor oil.

  • Swap Meet: Final count was 55 vendors. We had one come in from Oklahoma about 1:00 PM on Saturday. All of the vendors I talked with were very pleased with the meet. The weather cooperated. I guess it could have been a little warmer, but for March it was real good. Don Arndt said it was the best time he had ever had, He sold some treasures and had a ball.

  • Member update: Don Arndt has been undergoing some heart related medical tests. Don has received good reports from his doctors. He said he has been reassured about his health condition as being good.
We had to say goodbye to Wilfred Helt, a long time member, lead engineer of the big engines. It is hard to remember him with out his pleasant demeanor and gentile look on his face. All who knew him will miss Wilfred. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Keep Ernie Swan in your thoughts and prayers.

  • April Business meeting:

  • Old Business: Bill Thurman reported that we have looked into getting the jail cells from the old High School building. We will work towards this as soon as the room they are in is cleaned out so we can work in the room to remove the cells.

  • Youth Ag Day: we will have a number of schools represented and about 100 youth on the grounds. We need all the help we can get. Please if you have a craft, some equipment to demonstrate, or information to pass on to these young people come and help us. We need all of the helpers on the show grounds by 8:00 Am on May 1st. This is a very worthwhile endeavor; we cannot make this work with out your help. All persons who show up will be given a job.
Fred Lewis wants to make a memorial wall in the museum. We are asking the families of our departed members to furnish an 8x10 picture and an 8x10 biography of the individual. These will be displayed on one wall of the museum. Please see Fred with these items. We will furnish the frames.
Delbert Watts brought a proposal for the new bathhouse. The Community of Christ Church Group which use the show grounds for a retreat each September has promised generous financial support for this project for a guarantee of continued use of the park for their retreats. Delbert and Mutt have the authority to proceed with the plans.
A memorial to Wilfred was discussed and will be left in the hands of the engine guys. Wilfred was the Lead Engineer of the Big Engine Barn.
