MARCH - APRIL 2007 News Letter
EDITOR: Duane Craig
* Work Days each Saturday in May & June, before the show.
* 29th Annual Steam & Gas Engine Show, June 22-24, 2007
- Well we have survived another Spring Swap Meet, the weather on Friday could
have been better, but it was near perfect on Saturday. According to the fees
I received there were 56 paid vendors. The vendors were pleased that we were
having a Fall Swap Meet also.
- Remember to check on your membership status if the date in the upper
right corner of your mailer is 2006, you are not paid up and this will be your
last newsletter. Twenty percent of our members are behind in their dues.
Send your dues ($25.00) to Duane Craig 1001 Country Club Dr. Butler, MO 64730.
If you receive your newsletter via e-mail please contact me at
ducraig @ earthlink.net to check your membership status.
- Belt Buckles: Remember to purchase your buckles before I close the
office on Friday June 22, 2007 as of Saturday we can’t assure you that your
”number” will be held back. Please shop early. I will have the office open on
Thursday before the show also.
- March Board Meeting: The Swap Meet Committee has changed the dates for
our First Fall Swap Meet. It will be on October 5th and 6th. It was changed due
to a conflict with the renting of the Village Center on the original date. It was
also decided by the Membership that no fees be charged to the vendors for this first fall event.
John Ruehter had contacted Congressman Ike Skeleton about getting grant moneys for the
development of the show grounds. Mr. Skeleton suggested that we contact USDA Rural Development
Agency in search of funds. On Wednesday March 21st a committee met with Ed Mason of the USDA.
We will continue to work on this avenue of support for some future development.
- April Board Meeting: Not a great deal of business was conducted; we were
reminded that we need workdays in May and June prior to the show to get the grounds ready.
The board authorized Kevin Scrogham to renew our web site hosting and domain name.
Joyce Fitzpatrick of the Community Food Pantry donated a scale head from the
Tiona Training Center building in Butler. Tim Hummel reported that He and Bob
Highley had moved it to the grounds.
- Donations: West Central Mo Ag Services of Adrian are paying
for all of the dash plaques for this year’s show.
- Presidents Corner: Our show is quickly approaching. Anything you
can do to help get ready is appreciated. Our biggest area that needs help is
during the show tram drivers. We already have a sign-up list in the office for
ANY member who would like to participate. We are planning to use one tram on the
grounds at all times with a second one as needed.
Mowing season is here. If you have time and would like to help keep our
grounds up with mowing and /or weed eating, give Bill Parrish (816-626-3770) or
Don Arndt (816-297-2048) a call and they can get you heading in the right direction.
The club owns a 3 point finish mower if you have a tractor you would like to use
to pull it you are welcome to do so.
Thanks Steven
- The Ladies Auxiliary: We will be having a meeting on May 10th planning for
this year’s up coming show. Please be there to help us plan and get things ready.
We are getting fewer in numbers and need all the help we can get. Show time is rapidly approaching.
Thanks!
Lillian
- Duane’s Editorial: I have come across a very good article by Leslie McManus
Editor of Farm Collector Magazine. It was on volunteerism and the efficient presenting
a show. It was in the April issue, she stated the need for good volunteers. Those who
put forth a good and friendly presence. They are the heart of the Club. I would encourage
all to read this article in the April issue. It is very well put as what is needed
to produce and maintain a well run and accepted show. The dedication of our membership
will affect our show and the longevity of the organization.
Till next time Duane.
