WMAT&MA NEWS

JUNE 2004

  • FOUND We found the PTO shaft for our land pride mower thanks to the keen eye and tremendous investigative powers of Tim Hummel.

  • LARRY HARPER’S gifts of tractors, baler and blacksmith equipment have all made their way to the Village. Friday, May 7th, John Ruehter and Bill Parrish took a truck and trailer each and recovered the donations.

Charlie Fritts and Bob Highley brought in another huge air compressor. I have no other details yet.

  • WEB SITE UPDATE Kevin Scrogham, Duane Craig and myself met at the Village May 10th to get organized on the Web page project. Kevin is doing a good job getting all the information together. I think we’ll have a good one. We are planning to link with other great sites, like Lloyd Willhite’s antique engine site and the KC two cylinder club.

  • MAY MEETING. With a little better attendance of 25 members, we did get some business taken care of.

Steve Doody brought the new yellow vehicle gate passes he designed and made. If you have a need to park in a close parking lot during the show, see Steve.

Bill called for work days to begin Saturday May 15th. He said we should try to work every Saturday in June and try to get back on track again. There was a lot of discussion about how hard our club is being hit with health problems. A big chunk of our old reliable work force is being rapidly eroded away. We must recruit and encourage young people for our club to continue and we must do everything we can to hang on to the good members we have.

The single best and quickest way to run off a volunteer worker, that I know of, is to yell at him or tell him off. Don’t do it. If someone is working and is in charge, leave him alone! There are people in charge of most areas at the Village. There should never be someone jumping into your area without your blessing. Go to the board if there is a problem and let them sort it out. As hard as the structure of our association is being damaged by deaths and illness, we sure don’t need any man made troubles of this kind.

  • E MAIL, E MAIL. Help the club save postage!!! Send your E address to . Don’t forget, if you change your mailing address or your E address, INFORM Duane.

  • DONATIONS Dorothy Delameter Marcum sent another $100.00 to us so we can add some rock to Delameter Ave.

David Groom printed another few thousand show bills for us. Pick some up soon. There is plenty in the office and the Village center.

  • BUCKLE UPDATE The buckles this year look great and sales are ahead of last year. Get yours soon!

  • FRITTS FREEDOM BRIDGE. Since the bridge cannot be used for vehicle traffic and can only be a neat walkway, we are trying to gather ideas to put that area to good use. Maybe spruce up around the bridge and put a little memorabilia on it along with the sign describing its history. Any ideas along this line?

  • NEW DEAL. We have about 40 vehicles, static displays and structures on the grounds that each take a little love, care and maintenance from time to time. Until now we have done this, hit and miss and helter skelter, by whoever had a minute. Saturday, while the other 20 men at the workday worked, Paul Vilotti and I listed most of these items and Paul is making a chart listing all of them. We are going to assign an individual to each of these and they will be THE caretaker of it. It does not mean you would have to do all the work, it means you would be the one who saw to it that the maintenance was preformed when needed, like oil changes and wash jobs. Each item will have a placard on it describing the item and explaining who the care giver is. Won’t you take a tractor or other item to be in charge of ? Call me if you have a particular display in mind that suits your fancy or if you would take anything we need help with. This will also be a great opportunity for a member that has no collection of his own to be "attached" to a truck or tractor and be proud of his work. That person will also be the one who parades and or displays it.

  • MAY 15th WORK DAY was a huge success! After some recent disappointing turnouts, it was great to see so many willing and smiling faces again. We managed to get quite a lot accomplished on such a beautiful day. Lots of museum stuff was moved under the direction of Fred Lewis and Steve "we can move it" Doody. Also the engine guys were very busy up at the Watts Barn on that project. Ed Arndt started the cleanup process on our pop corn machine.

Remember, EVERY Saturday in June is a work day. If you can make one, two or all of these it would be great!

Don’t feel you have to spend the day either. If you only have an hour to spare, come on out.

The Village looks great. To all you fellows that are grooming the grounds, THANK YOU!

  • ONE MORE THING. The gate at the Village has been left open several nights lately. If you see it standing open and no one around, please lock it. The gate being left open all night will only invite 4x4's to vandalize the grounds. We sure don’t need that. So, if you work at the park, then leave, please lock it up.

Meet you at the Village, Don

Board meetings are always the 2nd Thursday each month

    Work days, all June Saturdays

    Show dates, July 23rd ,24th, 25th 2004
