WMAT&MA NEWS

JUNE & JULY 2005 News Letter

  • Rail Road Stuff. Bill T, Duane Craig, R.D., Gib Thurman and my self traveled to Windsor to pick up a load of RR switches and lights that the City of Windsor had donated. Lloyd Wilhite put the deal together for us and we have some very nice additions to the RR now. At the May 7th meeting, Lloyd hauled in another load from Windsor. This was a load of street signs. Folks in Windsor are probably lost now without their signs!

  • YOUTH AG DAY! A true success story for sure. We had over 100 high school youth for the entire day April 25. I’m very sure we will have this become an annual event.
Duane did get 21 of the young people signed as members and they will have that free membership until they turn 18.
Every station reported having at least one person interested in coming back to work. I was very impressed with the young folk’s attentiveness and great behavior. We received many good comments from the instructors and teachers that came with the kids. They thought the day was a good learning tool.
A big Thank You goes to the Villotti family and Janice Highley for volunteering the job of feeding the kids and our members.
Duane Craig took several pictures at the event and Kevin has already got them on out web site if you would like to see them. www.wmatma.com (PowerPoint Presentation - Viewer Needed)

  • DONATIONS. Harlen Hartley gave us a cutout of our logo tractor. It is made of metal and is about 6 feet long. It is bare steel so as soon as I can paint it, I’ll hang it up for all to see.
The tank of fuel from MFA! Charlie Forester made new arm rests for our “cushie” chairs and Fred Lewis installed them.
Orschlen Farm and Home donated $1000.00 to pay for the speaker at this year’s banquette. For details and to purchase tickets for the banquette, see Jim LaRose 816 297 4290.

  • FOR THE SHOW Norman Wade from KC called and will return with his wooden tractor display. He will use the Journal/Shoe Shop building again this year. Also, the Mountain Grove Ice Cream Company will be here from southern MO to sell the homemade delight made with a JD hit and miss.

  • MOWERS, MOWERS, START YOUR ENGINES. The mowing for 2005 has begun! Bill Parrish was first on the scene, of course, but since then two or three have mowed at the “up” ground. RD’s railroad guys have cleaned up everything west of the river. I’m sure there is more, but I’ve seen Bob Keirsy and Will Essenpries mowing too. It is hard to catch Bob mowing; he starts at 6:30 am. There are several folks mowing and if you will let me know when you do, I’ll mention your name. If I don’t know about it, I can’t write it.
We were out of fuel for the mowers so I called Jim Shubert with MFA and we had fuel in the barrel that afternoon. The next day we received a statement of account that declared the bill had been paid by MFA. $425.00 is a huge gift and we appreciated it very much. If you see anyone from MFA, please let them know what this means to us.

  • DOROTHY DELAMETER has moved to Grandview. She has had a bout with health problems but on the mend now. She would like to hear from any of her “old timer” friends from WMAT MA. 816 765 6093

  • MASSEY GATHERING at Bill Parrish’s home June 9, 10, 11. Bill said there will be entertainment and plenty of great food. For details, call Bill at 816 626 3770.

  • BUCKLES Be sure and pick your serial numbered buckle up before the show. During the show all buckles are for sale and we stop holding special numbers for people.

  • THANKS goes to our fence builders! It is really looking good fellows. I don’t know who all is in on it, so I’ll try to mention them in the next letter.

  • NEW MEETING TIMES. The board has changed the meetings back to the old time of the 2nd Thursday of the month, at 7:00pm. NOT ON SATURDAYS ANY MORE. The next board meeting will be June 9th
