MAY - JUNE 2008 News Letter
EDITOR: Duane Craig
-
This June 20-22 is our 30th annual show, your show tickets are enclosed
in this mailing, and they are two green tickets just like last year.
- Its time to get ready for the really big show. The show date is rapidly
approaching, are you ready? There are things that need to be completed
before the opening of the show. This will be our biggest undertaking so
far as an organization. Please be ready to lend a hand and to help out
wherever there is a need.
- The last two board meetings have been consumed in making last
minute preparations for Show Time. We have nailed down where the exhibits
will be staged. Some of the miniatures will be in the museum and some
will be down by the railroad. The tractor expo tent will be on the
south part of the show ground’s, in the main tractor exhibit area.
The mowers have been working over time because of the great deal of
moisture we have received this spring, thanks to Bill and Bob and
who ever that have been helping.
Due to the construction of the Adrian Water Plant, the parking will
be south of the show grounds weather permitting. The south entrance
will be the primary entrance to the show. The Flea Market area will
be at the north end of the park, with the horses moving to the south,
in the big barn.
- Donations: Donations have been received from Oreke Farms
and Lelan Deems. Max Motors has donated the cost of plastic bags,
which will be given to each registrant, and Heritage Equipment has
paid the printing cost of the show guide programs. West Central Agri
of Adrian have paid for the show buttons as usual. Eric Silver and his
dad Mike have made the Dodge Power Wagon road worthy and it is sporting
a new paint job. Thanks to every one who have helped.
Be sure and check out the Museum, Fred Lewis has been hard at work
building displays and making sure there will be adequate space for
the miniature displays in the center of the main building.
- Presidents Report: Everybody Its Show Time!!! Work days
June 7th and 14th the last Saturdays before the show. The rains keep
coming and the grass keeps growing when it dries out turn the mowers
loose everybody. The club has a big show coming up and the club
belongs to every member and it is important that every member does
their part to make the show a success. We all should be proud of
our show and hope that anybody that attends has a great time. I hope
to see everybody June 12th at the meeting. If anybody has any questions
or concerns email or call me moline705@hotmail.com or 816-297-4270
after 7:00pm. Eric Silver
- Belt Buckles: As in the past your belt buckle is reserved
until Friday evening the first day of the show, if you haven’t purchased
them by that time we can’t hold them. They will be sold after that time.
There have been concerns in years past about this, so make arrangements
to purchase your reservation before Friday afternoon. We need to have
the remainder free to sell. We have a commitment to supply buckles to
those who visit the show. After all, you have had since November to pick
up your reserved number. So please come by the office early Friday to
get your buckles.
- Personal Transportation: We will be registering your
golf carts and four wheelers in the registration office again this year,
this is to assure that those operating such vehicles will be responsible
to do so in a safe manor.
- Tram Drivers: This is the most important job at show time.
The tram operators are usually the first one a visitor sees and the last.
We need to pay strict attention to our safe and courteous movement of
the visitors into and around the park. This is usually a job that no
one wants and some times some volunteers get stuck with long hours
on the tram tractors so if you can help out please do so. If the
weather is wet we may have to move the parking to the stadium area
and this will cause there to be more trams and driver needed. Enough
said we need your help if we can’t move our guests in and out of the
show grounds we have lost the battle before we start.
- Duane’s Editorial: As this time of the year approaches
I get a little nervous, will there be enough help will the visitors
get the ideas we want them to take form our show. Our wish and purpose
is to show the younger generations some of the arts and crafts that
went into rural life when we were younger. I have lived in an age
where so many things were accomplished.
Horsepower gave way to steam power then that being replaced by the
gas traction engine and then the smaller tractors that I grew up with.
We want to show as much of this progress as we can in the three short
days we have to do so. There have been so many technological innovations
in my lifetime. From horse and buggy to the exploration of outer space.
I remember the comic strip Dick Tracy and his television watch in which he
communicated with, it sure looked far-fetched at the time. Well it is here
in the form of a camera phone, which many of us use every day. In farming we
went from a one-bottom horse drawn walking plow to the multiple bottoms and
then to no till farming. There is so much history we need to pass on to
those who follow us. This is just what every tractor and steam engine
club are all about, the preservation of the history of our roots.
