JULY 2005 News Letter

  • NEW EDITOR! Adrian Mo. July 2005: The News Letter has a new editor, things may look a little different, but I will try to fill Dons shoes and get the news out. Don has been doing a very fine job of keeping us informed, and his effort has been much appreciated. Anyone having news for the newsletter let me know. Duane Craig (660) 679 4703 or ducraig@earthlink.net. The July newsletter will only go out to those who are current in their membership dues. This was a board decision made prior to last years show.

  • HELPER! We have a State paid summer worker (Tim Pitts) here at the park. He is working 20 hours a week broke down to about 6 hours, three days a week. But there is always a catch; He needs supervision most of the time. So far the supervisors have been Don Arndt, Wilfred Helt, and Fred Lewis.

  • PASSING. Larry Spencer Harper, 62, of Columbia passed away Monday, May 23, 2005. A memorial service was 6 p.m. Friday, May 27, at Parker Funeral Service, with a reception to follow at Boone Tavern. Mr. Harper’s ashes will be buried at the family farm in Bates County.
Larry was a great supporter of our club and will be missed by those who knew him.

  • We have received news from our Oklahoma friends that Terry Bridgewater has passed away. He was a collector of BIG, and had several Bessimers. He loved this show, and never missed a show or swap meet.

  • NEW Don Arndt has the Hartley tractor painted orange and hung on the north end of the main office. Thanks again to Harlan for this nice gift.

  • THANKS! A BIG Thanks to the fence crew, Roger Pruden and Steve Doody set the steel posts. They had the help of Don Hill, Bob Zimmerman, John Ruehter, Kenny Englehart, George Reed, Elvin Neider, Todd Hall, and Duane Craig on the rest of the job.

  • DONATIONS: Dorthy Delameter sent us a check for $100.00 for rock on Delameter Ave.
  • Dennis Davis donated $40.00 to the club.
  • The Tractor Supply store in Belton donated a new self-propelled lawn mower for a club raffle.
  • Michael Crowe, Jim La Rose and John Gray will furnish the big tent for Caterpillar club that is coming to the show.

  • LIFE MEMBER! Kenneth Hooper our most recent Life member: He is OK in my book, He likes Green tractors.

  • Wilfred Helt reports that he has serviced and updated all of the parks fire extinguishers.

  • JUNE BOARD MEETING: We still need some members to oversee Tim Pitts, our state paid worker, if you can help please call 816 279 8723.
  • We decided to cover the bath house with tin.
  • It was decided to have an auction with next year’s swap meet.
  • Delbert Watts is the Entertainment Chairman for the 2005 show. Call him for times available.
  • We will use Kenneth Englehart wheat for the 2006 show and not farm the Arnold place.
  • The keys to the paper towel dispenser are lost or misplaced, if you know where they are please let someone know.

  • June 11 was the best workday ever, we had about 25 WORKERS, three crews and they got a lot done.

  • Don and Lillian Hill and Don and Sue Arndt Traveled to the 5th annual show at Broken Arrow OK. It rained Thursday night so the Friday show was poor, but Saturday was very good. It was a small show, but some of the smaller ones are the best. They made a lot of friends; many of them attend our show yearly. There are Great folks running the show.

  • Bill Thurman reports that the Lathrop Show was their biggest yet, Crowded from one end to the other. They had trucked in equipment from all over the US, some from over 1000 miles. Bill says it was one of the largest shows in the four state area.

  • Have you ever been on a tractor cruise? You know where a bunch of old tractor nuts go out and drive many miles on their old but beloved pieces of tired iron. The last two years I have tried to go on the Show Me Tractor Cruise but failed to complete the course. It is a fund raising event for Camp Quality in northwest Mo. Camp Quality is for children who are battling cancer. Myself and 9 or 10 others from the Two Cylinder Club of Greater KC joined over 400 other drivers in an attempt to drive over 50 miles this year; the course was from Savannah, Mo. through the country to St Joseph, MO. and through the city on the many miles of their parkway system. Well I had been having carburetor trouble and with the help of Don Arndt, I thought I had it whipped, but I didn’t I was the first tractor to drop out. I needed to be hauled back to the starting point. Ending my day early. But the slogan A Few Miles for Many Smiles, prevailed and thousands of dollars were raised for Camp Quality.

  • NEEDED: The Club is in need of a propane tank any size and small is ok. It must have a gauge on it. If you can help in this area please call Don at 816 297 2048.

  • The oats have been cut and hauled in we loaded three trailers one wagon and two trucks, there was a great turn out for the binding. Between 15 and 20 people were on hand for the fun, it must have been fun because none of us would work that hard for any other reason. Pictures Here

  • As Show Time July 22-24 draws near, there are many loose ends that need to be tied up, and as always much help is needed during the show. Doug Davis will be helping with announcements on the public address system. This year’s show even though it is orange will probably be our largest, barring unforeseen weather problems. You will find enclosed your show tickets. Stop by the office and see Farrell and myself we will have Belt Buckles and Decals for sale.

See you at the breakfast table. The best Breakfast in Western Missouri These Ladies do a great job, and don’t forget the Ice Cream Parlor.
