AUGUST 2005 News Letter

EDITOR: Duane Craig
  • Well, the 2005 show is history; it goes in the books as one of our greater and hottest shows. The many comments heard were it was a very well received show. Much thanks to Jim La Rose and Michael Crowe. They worked on this for two years, thanks guys. A big thanks is also due to our president and the board of directors, and those chairmen working behind the scenes. Due to the heat many were glad that next years show would be a month earlier.
There were eight states represented by the 215 tractors that were registered in the office, I suspect there were close to 350 tractors on the show grounds at the peek of the show. There were numerous cars, trucks, gas engines and displays. Did you get a chance to visit the fence making display? This equipment is featured in this month’s issue of Farm Collector Magazine. A very interesting working display.
Those honored at this years show were Charlie Fritts, outstanding member, Fred Lewis, presidents award, Bob Kersey, Rookie of the Year. A new award was given this year Gib Thurman, and Jacob Villotti, outstanding youth of the year. Young men like these are the future of this organization. My hat is off to Joseph Villotti, he worked tirelessly to get the thresher he purchased at the “Hellwig sale” up and running. After sitting idle for about 30 years, it was used to thrash oats on Sunday.
Tram operations were handled by the King family, and they did a great job. When families step up and take on an operation like this it makes the show a better one. Lewis wanted me to pass on to the tram drivers how pleased they were that so many volunteers stepped up to help them. Which is a testimony to the way the entire operation was run. Thanks again Lewis, Paul and Allison, great job.

  • Bill, and Judy Parrish hosted the 11th annual Massy Harris show at their farm June 9th, 10th, and 11th, I have been told it was a great show well attended with lots of tractors and great entertainment. The three day event showcased over 75 tractors and implements, offered an indoor Massy memorabilia market a barbeque dinner on Saturday and featured “the Auctioneer” himself, country crooner Leroy Van Dyke. Leroy performed songs and auctioneered donated items during the benefit auction. Attendees came from all over the United States to show their tractors. The event is an annual event and is hosted by different folks each year.

  • John Deere Expo: Charlie & Gloria Eagleberger, George & Betty Reed, Duane & Joan Craig, and several others from the Two-cylinder club, attended the Expo at Dubuque Iowa July 14-17. It was a great show with many fine tractors on display, and a vendor area and flea market where if you were handy with money you could have bought enough parts to build a tractor. One of the highlights of the tour was the tour of the Dubuque wagon works, where John Deere builds skid steers, backhoes, and crawler tractors. I also heard a report from a young Hollander on Tractor Collecting in Europe, quite interesting; many American farm tractors are going to Europe, for use and collecting.

  • Donations: Wimsatt Propane donated propane and a tank for use during the show. Jim Embry has donated a propane tank for use at the bathhouse. Kevin Johnson donated lights and poles for the pulling track. Rick Neuer sent us some Arial photographs of the show. Steve Schuite gave us some very good photos of the show.

  • New Life Members: Welcome the following new life members. Brantly “Chopper” Bagby, Roy Thomas, Dean Horst.

  • Board Meeting Highlights: The board must approve all expenditures from this time forth. If you make a purchase without approval you may not be reimbursed. Bill Parrish was elected advertising Chairman with a budget of $1000.00. All advertising should go through Bill.

The summer picnic will be held on Aug. 27th call Lillian Hill (660 679 5607) or Ruby Lockard (816 297 2932) for details.

There will be a Just for Fun tractor pull ($5.00 a hook) on September 17th 1:00 PM. No Admission charge. Contact Steve Doody (816 297 2076) or Randy Yates (816 297 2674) for details.

We are asking Steve Schuite to be the club photographer.

Thank You cards designed by Doug Davis will be sent to those who donated services and funds to make these years show great.

The board has set up a calendar noting the days or the weekend of the month that our various events are held. Many thoughts were expressed about the past show and some suggestions for future shows. If you have ideas you want expressed please come to the monthly meetings, also if you have news to share with the club let me know and I will try and get it into the news letter.
