WMAT&MA NEWS
JULY - AUGUST 2006 News Letter
EDITOR: Duane Craig
- Don’t forget the annual picnic August 26, meet at 4:00PM eat at 5:00PM,
any questions about what to bring call Lillian Hill at 816-297-2776.
Bring your own table service drinks furnished.
- Well another show is in the books; the 28th annual WMAT&MA show is a
thing of the past now we can look forward to the 29th show just 10 months away.
For the most part the weather cooperated, a small set back on Saturday evening
as the rain canceled or rather postponed the rubber tired antique tractor pull.
A big thanks goes to John Ruehter and Kenneth Engelhardt for looking after
the expo tents. I was privileged to come in contact with most exhibitors
and a great number of others. Most comments were; great weather, not like
last year. You sure were smart in changing your show date. All of the people
I talked with were pleased with the show, and grounds, and the new bathhouse.
I got acquainted with the Kestners, the broom makers; they were very much
impressed with our show and grounds. They make a lot of shows and events each
year and they gave us hearty well done. When I ask them if they would consider
coming back next year, they said they would be happy to. There were a lot of
interesting things and some unusual pieces of machinery on display.
Paul Cummings brought a most unusual display. His McCormick Reaper, and his
hand built Farmall Regular. Thanks to Paul and all the all of others who shared
their treasures with us. With out those who brought their displays we wouldn’t’
have had a show. It was also noted that the placement of the Car Show was an improvement.
I can’t say enough about the good food, and the top of the list is the breakfast
served by the Ladies at the Frontier Village Center, it was super, and they serve
some mighty good ice cream in the Ice Cream Parlor.
- Awards: The recipients of the president’s awards were
Duane Craig, Bill Thurman, John Ruehter and Dick Essenpries. I was very
surprised and very honored to have been in the company of these Award
receivers. Delbert Watts was given the Get-R-Done award, much deserved
for all He takes on in keeping the park in shape. Special Recognition
went to master sawyer Ernie Swan, a name synonymous with saw mill operations.
Fred Lewis received the Man of The Year Award for all of his tireless work
in the Museum. These are but a few of the tireless workers who make our
organization continue, without the dedication of all our workers we wouldn’t
have been as successful as we have been.
- Donations: Dorothy Delameter gave $100.00 for gravel on
Delameter Ave. Orke Farms donated $400.00. Charles and Helen Haverfield
donated $200.00 towards the bathhouse. Rudy’s Tires in Adrian repaired
9 tires on the Kiddy Tram at no charge. Richard McCandless donated propane tanks.
- July Board Meeting: The Payments to the organizations, which helped during
the show were compensated for their effort. The Gate for the show was almost $9,000.00;
the total income at the show was almost $12,000.00. Steven Said the Museum loan
will have to be finalized soon. We will make a payment after the Tractor Pull
and renegotiate the length of the remaining indebtedness. Tim Hummel said that
they wanted to rename the Engine Barn and Machine Shop in honor of Wilfred Helt,
This was heartily agreed to by the group. Steven wants to do the Show Bill at
the next meeting, so we can have it for our November meeting. We are in need
of a Food Vendor Chairman for the show bills contact person. Bill Thurman
said that a Scale Model steam and gas engine group had contacted him. They
want to have a first ever National Show here in 2008. Steven voiced the
hope of increasing the show, grounds area, so we could display more
exhibits.
Kevin is in the process of putting pictures of the show on the web site.
He has done a great job of putting us out in cyber space.
- August Board Meeting: Not a lot of information of note on
last board meeting. Steven gave a big thanks to those who helped move
the donated thrasher to the show grounds. The big engine guys were
given the ok on pouring a 30 X 48 foot concrete slab on the west side
of the engine barn. There were some miss thoughts about the bank loan.
The indebtedness started when we signed the loan not when we started
using the funds. We have made a $1,000.00 payment to the bank and
paid the interest to date, and set up the remainder indebtedness on a
five-year loan. The tractor pull was a success. We cleared about $500.00
not bad for a first time event. The Tractor Pull for next year will be July 21st 2007.
See You At The Picnic.
