JULY - AUGUST 2007 News Letter

EDITOR: Duane Craig

  • Don’t miss the picnic, Saturday August 25, 4:00 PM, eat at 5:00 PM, see you there. Bring your own table service, drinks will be provided. The picnic will probably be moved inside due to the weather.

  • Well we have another show in the books, great weather, great crowds, and great people! I think it was the best show ever, in spite of having to spend most of my time in the office. I did get to visit with a lot of guests who dropped by. Some of them I had talked to on the phone prior to the show. There is always something’s we can improve on, but that is part of evolving as a show. If you have ideas that will help us put on a better show bring them to the monthly meetings.

  • Special Recognition: These following men were recognized for their contributions to the club: Dick Essenpries, Outstanding Member of the Year, Tim Hummel, the Get-R-Done Award, Chris Bolling, The Rookie of the Year. Bob Highley, Virgil Mizner, Bill “Mutt” Reitz, received the Presidents Award. Eric Silver received the Special Recognition Award for his help in putting on this years show. Good Job Guys, keep up the good work. Although there were only a few persons who were recognized, all of the members who were on hand to help with the show are deserving of our highest praise.

  • Thanks: Helen Haverfield wanted me to convey to everyone her thanks for the prayers, calls, cards, and well wishes she received during the show and her hospital stay. The Elvin Nieder and The Otis Peek Family’s wish to convey their appreciation to the club for the plant and well wishes sent their way at the time of Elvin’s and Otis’ passing, these men will be greatly missed by all.

  • July Board Meeting: Steven thanked everyone who helped with the show, everyone pulled together and made things run smooth. Special recognition to the Paul Villotti Family who took charge of the tram operation at the last minute, good work guys. We voted to pay off the note on the Bath House, and paid all of the various organizations, which helped with the parking and gate. Thanks to all the groups, that helped. A special thanks to the Adrian Volunteer Fire Dept. for keeping the dust down on the streets.

  • August Board Meeting: There wasn’t much discussed at the meeting, except the poor attendance at the Tractor Pull. The Garden Tractor Pull was not very well attended, but there were a great number of pullers, which offset the low gate. The pullers donated the entire gate to the club. Thanks Guys. There has been much consideration of the placement of the flea marketers at the show. The marketers want their area closer to the main gate. A committee has been formed to make a proposal at the next board meeting at to the location of the Flea Market.

  • Duane’s Editorial: We lost two of our beloved members just prior to the show date; Elvin Neider and Otis Peek passed away. They will be missed. This is part of life, the passing of one generation to make way for the next. We just want to hold on to these who have passed on but it is out of our control. We must be ready to grab hold of the line and be ready to pull our share, to keep the boat moving forward. Keeping in mind the lessons that these have taught us. Looking at this year’s award winners, we have some young and energetic members taking a hold of that line. This is what we need to survive. I was ask to speak to the Butler’s Lions Club, about the Club. In doing some research I was reminded of all the energy put forth in the past, to continue another thirty years much will be required of those who follow. I am also reminded of the need for our young members and families to learn as much as they can about the way it was. One of these days they will be the older members passing this on to the next generation. This is why we put so much emphasis on the program for Kids Day; this is when we get the biggest audience of young people. This is when we older ones and those of us who have special talents can place a spark of interest in minds of these who will be called on to keep the organization going in the future.

See you at at the Picnic.
