WMAT&MA NEWS
SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER 2004
- PICNIC: What else can you say.... Great food, great weather, wonderful
fellowship with friends and a good attendance.
- TRACTOR PULL: All the
preparation was done. The crew was ready and the girls had food........ rain out.
Rained all day Saturday. The pull crew said they are looking for another event.
More on this later.
- DONATIONS: Adrian Restoration Branch Church gave us $250 for using the
grounds for their retreat. The POSC group donated $75 for the use of the grounds
also for their annual meeting.
- KIDS DAY: This was a WOW day for sure. 230 kids blanketed Frontier
Village for the entire day October 5th, learning about everything
from black smithing to sharping axes. We had a record number of workers come out
to demonstrate as over 60 volunteers enjoyed the wonder of those kids and a
beautiful day. At 12:00 noon everything stopped and all the
workers went to the Center for a meal of ham and beans with corn bread
cooked up by our great ladies. We had such a great turnout, the girls were
thinking they might run out of food. We are still receiving thank you notes
and phone calls about the field trip. Butler, Adrian, Archie,
Miami and Ballard 4th grades plus about 40 head start kids were kept
wide eyed for the entire day. Thanks to all of you that helped make this a good
memory for all that was involved. Every one of you did a great job. Thank
you.
- MEETING UPDATE SEPTEMBER 9th: Cliff Steffee reported no takers
for the auction class. He may try again.
Matt Cobern, new member, volunteered to help work in the blacksmith shop.
Discussion was held about the possibility of having an auction during the swap meet.
Our Railroad kids are looking for a fund raiser to help support the train. A chili supper was discussed.
John Rueter became a life member.
- CHILI SUPPER: planned for October 23rd to raise funds
for the railroad. They are wanting to build some new cars.
We would surely like to see everyone turn out for this as we need to help
fund the RR. This will be a free will offering.
- BITS AND PIECES: If you haven’t noticed, take a look at the new information and welcome sign that Bill
Parrish had painted and the donated to the club. It is on the front of the
office.
We need someone to take the job of replacing a few of the walk boards in the
floor of Hanson’s Crossing swinging bridge. Our sawyers will cut the lumber you
need.
Duane tells us that we are now 215 members strong. Check out our great web
site. It always has any late breaking club news that you might need also. Kevin
is adding to it almost daily. Go to "members information" for all current
activities and past news letters.
- MEETING OCTOBER 14 th: RUNDOWN - Big meeting! We covered a
lot of territory.
The Blacksmiths want iron. If you have any stock left after one of your
projects, please leave it piled by the Blacksmith shop.
We chose the gas engine, "Reid" to be the feature for 2005. We also
picked a G Allis for the buttons and a WC for the buckles. The Dash plates will
depict a working Allis pulling a chopper. We decided we would probably have a no
reserve auction along with the auction of our "extra" iron during the swap meet.
- CHRISTMAS LIGHTS: Much discussion was held on this. Without Frank "Big
Lights" Enos on board, no one knows if we can pull it off, but it was decided to
attempt it by putting one smart guy with each small crew and assign a building
to each group. Bill wondered if we have enough smart guys to go around. November
6th at 10:00am will be our first "light" work day. November
13th we’ll try to finish it up.
- THRESHERS DINNER AND ELECTION OF OFFICERS: NOVEMBER 14th at
1:00pm in the ladies Center for a pot lunch meal, then the guys will move to the
office for our annual election of officers and meeting. This could very well be
one of the most important meetings in our club’s history so be sure and attend.
Gate fee charge at the annual show and show dates will be among the crucial
topics of the day.
- HOT CHOCOLATE NIGHT Saturday November 27th 5pm. Don’t miss this.
Lots of families, no charge to anyone, Santa Claus, Lions Club will be there
with candy, cookies and hot chocolate from the Ladies Aux, a multitude of rides
for kids from trains to trams and then horse and buggy rides that will add a
little romance for mom and dad.
- WINTERIZE If you have something with water in it, at home or the Village,
get it drained, winter is coming!!
Meet you at the Village
Don Arndt
