Threshers Dinner and Election of officers 1:00 PM Nov 11th 2007
- Tuesday, October 2, 2007, Frontier Village was host to 212
Fourth Graders from the neighboring Schools. Archie, Adrian, Ballard, Butler,
Adrian Head Start and Butler Head Start students were our guests for the day.
This annual Kids Day is the most important event of our year. The members of the
Western Missouri Antique Tractor and Machinery Association come to show their
skills and trades from an era gone by.
We are eager to display to these youngsters things like a one room school,
a turn of the century rural Church. These students with their teachers and
sponsors make a trip to the old General Store (Spruce Store) constructed of
the material that once was the Spruce Community Building. There they view the
shelves with the wares of the past; stove black, lamp wicks, washboards and
various staples of the past. There they also get to see the Cash Rail Way System
that was removed form the Levy Store in Butler. There is also the Post Office
counter, which was once at Passaic, MO. Then they move on down the street and
view the Museum, which houses many one of a kind items and a host of tools
and items we once used in our daily lives.
They get to see a working Grist Mill milling corn meal, a cider press
making cider, and then cooking apple butter. These are just some of the
commonplace occurrences of a time gone by. In the fall of the year we
would prepare these items from our own fields and preserve them for the larder.
Then it is off to watch the Blacksmith with his coal fired forge and hammer
shaping the red hot metal into things to be used on the turn of the century homestead.
They can view large steam and gas engines and some scale model engines.
A day at Frontier Village is not complete unless you travel across the Swinging Bridge,
and view the Caboose then ride on the parks 7.5 gauge South Prairie Rail Road.
These are just some of the memories we would like to pass on to the children of today.
This is why the members for our organization have Kids Day,
we want to pass on some of the stuff our memories were made from.
Also a big thanks to the ladies for furnishing demonstrators in some of
the buildings and for providing us a very tasty lunch. We really owe their
organization a great big thanks. Behind every great man is an even greater woman.
- Our first fall Swap Meet was somewhat of a success, we attracted a very
good number of vendors, but the customers were few. There was a good amount of
merchandise to choose from. Some of our vendors came from quite a distance to sell
their wares. I hope that in the future we can interest the buying public to come and look and buy.
- September Meeting: The Flea Market Committee made a report and it was
decided to move the Flea Market to the north end of the show grounds west of the red barn.
It was mentioned that the name of the market might be changed.
A Hot Dog Supper was discussed for next years show.
There was discussion of letting the displayers of equipment
stay with their displays.
It was discussed about getting the gas engine exhibitors numbers built up for next years show.
It was discussed about building a barn 50 X 100 in place of having an expo tent.
We need to have a winter workday to finish cleaning out the ditch.
It was decided to put a Massy Harris tractor on next years belt buckle.
- October Meeting: The membership has voted to bring the Micro Mini puller
back next year and will also bring in a miniature pulling horse group.
These little horses put on a great show. This will add greatly to the variety
of the entertainment of the show. We will still have the usual events as have
been a staple of our shows in the past. The adding of the standing wheat on the
show grounds brought a new demonstration last year, and will be continued. Also next year
we will have scale model steam and gas engines and also scale machinery of all sorts.
Present at the meeting were four young men I think one of them was a visitor, these young
men are the future of our organization, please come along side of them and help mentor them.
- Member News: Several of our members took part in the Powell
Gardens Harvest festival October 6th and 7th, Saturday was a great day
but it rained on the Show Sunday afternoon.
Some of our members took tractors to the Adrian’s Street Fair on Saturday;
the day started off wet but the sun finally came out. Don Arndt was on hand
to tell about his book “See the Dragon” and to sign copies. It is great to have
such an astounding person in our midst.
- Our next meeting will be the Threshers Dinner Nov. 11th and the annual meeting
where officers are elected for the up coming year. We will eat at 1:00 PM and
the meeting will start about 2:00 PM. Please be on hand for this important meeting,
come and be prepared to take on a responsibility in the future of the club. What talents
do you have or what office could you take to help keep this organization going?
In my short tenure with the club I have become acquainted with many and am happy
to say I count it a privilege to call them friends. We also need to select a tractor
for our 2010 and 2011 shows.
Next years dues will soon be due, you can mail them to at the address below.
