SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER 2008 News Letter

EDITOR: Duane Craig

Don’t forget Kids Day October 7, 2008 & Swap meet October 17, 18, 2008

  • Reports: Much of the last two business meeting were taken up with the planning of building a Permanent Pavilion on the south end of the show grounds where the feature tractor expo tent was located this year. In the September meeting we voted to purchase a metal building, which is I-Beam construction. We have secured the loan from The Adrian Bank and are proceeding to get building ordered (at this writing the building delivery is about two weeks away) and start the construction. Joe Buffon a new member has volunteered to be the construction foreman; Joe is recently retired from J E Dunn Construction. What good fortune to have someone with his talents come and join at this time. The membership will be doing the construction, please lend a hand if you have the time and energy, contact Eric or Joe, there will be something for us all to do at one time or another. This Improvement will greatly enhance our facility and could be used by groups and organizations for special events. Plus we will not have to rent a tent each year for the show.
Kids Day is rapidly approaching, and we need all the help we can get. If you have a craft you can demonstrate to the school children please let us know we would be glad to have you. There are always things to do, drive a tram, cut up apples for cider or direct the children around the park.
We are also looking for a Santa Claus for Hot Chocolate Night.

  • Auxiliary Report: The Auxiliary appreciated the men who made the street light project possible. Tim, Bob, and Eric did the sandblasting and painting. David Wainright repaired the base on one of the lamp poles and made globe holder tops for four of them. After the August meeting Delbert called the guys and got things moving quickly. They dug the holes on Monday; Tuesday ran wire through pipe trenching (donated by Andy Enos) and covered the trench. Wednesday Lyndell Colburn brought concrete (1/2 donated) and the guys got everything ready to set up the streetlights on Saturday. Six streetlights run along Delameter Ave and Four on the south end of Main St. A very special thanks to Tim Hummel, Eric Silver Bob Highley, David Waniwright, Kenneth Engelhardt, Delbert Watts, Don Hill, Bob Zimmerman, Joe Buffon, Harley Martins, Mike Silver and Duane Craig for all their work, they look wonderful.
Anna Lou Engelhardt, Chair Person, spent a lot in the planning and finding the globes in Branson.
I think we all had a good time at our picnic August 23rd in Zimmerman Park. Approximately 43 enjoyed the fellowship and good food. Mr. and Mrs. Jeffries gave rides on their train, which was appreciated.
The Adrian School gave the association four cafeteria tables, which can be used, in the shelter house. We appreciated them thinking of us.
    Thanks Lillian

  • Presidents Report: Life member Jim Bellis passed away Sept. 23, our condolences goes out to his family.
Thanks to everybody evolved with getting the streetlights put up and working, thanks to Anna Lou for all her work. Thanks to Mark McDonnell with the use of his backhoe we got the drain extended.
This year at the fall swap meet on Saturday we will have a garden tractor pull by Dan Neider and his group Hillbilly Hook-n-Pull. I would like to see more members get involved with the club events; there is always something to be done. Kids day is almost here we expect about 200 kids.
Hope to see you, at hot chocolate night, I, like the cookies.
    Eric

  • R D and the railroad Guys are looking for a tank or metal tube six feet in diameter, to use for a tunnel over the railroad. If you have something around that they could use contact R D or Dick Essenprise.
As Eric mentioned we lost a Charter Member and friend this week, Jim Bellis went home to be with his Lord. Our condolences go out to Georgianna and the family. Jim was always there with an idea, help or a story.
