OCTOBER - DECEMBER 2005 News Letter

EDITOR: Duane Craig
  • October Meeting: It was decided to have golf cart and ATV registration and rules for the 2006 show. The feature tractors for the 2006 show will be IH Farmall and Case tractors and equipment, and Cub Cadet garden tractors. Plans for workdays to install Christmas light. There were very many good reports on Kids Day.

  • November Meeting: Plans for the 2006 show are in the works. Election of Officer and Board Members was completed. Also the various committees were staffed and some new ones created. A complete list of Officers and Committees will be attached to this letter. A heartfelt thanks to Bill Thurman. Shouldering the load of being president for the last six years. Bill has guided us through many changes. Bill has been involved with the club since its inception, and will be a big part of the organization for a long time to come. It was approved to install a water line to supply water to the Rail Road. A meeting was Called of the Show Bill Committee to design the handbill for the 2006 show. Thanks to all who helped with putting up Christmas lights. The park looks great. Dues for 2006 are now due they remain at $25.00. If you have any questions call Duane Craig at 660-679-4703 or email ducraig@earthlink.net.

  • Donations: We received $40.00 from Parents of Suicide the group used the park for a meeting.
John Ruehters, donated a load of treated lumber for picnic tables for the park.
Thanks to all of the businesses, which have supported us all year. Your help is most appreciated, and necessary to continue with the operation and improvements of the grounds.

  • Member News: On Sept. 24 Duane Craig, Charlie and Gloria Eagleburger, and our friends in the two-cylinder club took about 20 tractors to the American Royal Parade. Charlie Eagleburger, Vic Jadlow, Leonard Walburn, and Duane Craig took tractors and engines to the Harvest Festival and Antique Tractor Show at Powell Gardens Oct 1-2. It was a small show but there were a variety of tractors, small engines, and displays. The setting is very nice surrounded by a horseshoe of lake, with autumn flowers and foliage.

  • Kids Day: We entertained over 210 Children mostly fourth graders plus numerous adult leaders, from Adrian, Archie, Butler, and Miami Schools. We also had Head Start from Butler and Adrian. There were many displays and interpretative narrations. Mt. Vernon School, Mulberry Church, Spruce Store, Shoe Shop, Ice Cream Parlor, Museum, Grist Mill, Charlie Forrester’s Wood Shop, Steam Engine, Big Engines, Rumely Tractor, Saw Mill, Cider Mill, Black Smith Shop, Caboose, and South Prairie Railroad. Every teacher parent and Sponsor I talked with was very pleased with the Park and all they saw and did there. My count was 21 groups, of about 10 students each. None of this would have been possible had it not been for the volunteers, over 65 in number that were there. From tram drivers to train drivers, blacksmiths to grain millers, saw millers to cider pressers, and museum guides to those who cooked our lunch. Everyone did a super job, and it was a very good day.

  • Hot Chocolate Night: It was a great success, with the light all-aglow, the temperature just cool enough to remind us of the fall. A large crowd was on hand to welcome Santa and kick off the Christmas Season. Thanks to Yoss Market, for the hot chocolate, and to all those who supplied cookies, and the ladies who served. Thank You to all who brought tram tractors, horses, buggies, and wagons, and South Prairie Railroad, you have had a great part in making the night a success.

  • WMAT&MA Auxiliary: by Lillian Hill. The Auxiliary have a membership of 32 members in 2005. Our membership fee is $5.00. We encourage anyone interested in joining please attend our next scheduled meeting, March 9, 2006. Even if you cannot participate in all events, we need people to sit in our buildings during the show, make pies or whatever capacity you could serve. We hope you will join us.
Last year’s money making events were serving the Adrian Chamber of Commerce banquet, Hellwigs sale, breakfast and lunch at the Swap Meet, Massey Days, breakfast and lunch at the Pioneer Village Center and ice cream in the Soda Shop during the show.
Our big project this year was contracting Ernie Moore to make some repairs, scraping and painting the Store, Soda Shop, Church, and School. It made the Village look much nicer. We also paid ½ of the insurance on Frontier Village and gave $2000.00 on the utilities. The Auxiliary also does the flower planting and maintenance.
2006 officers are President Lillian Hill; Vice President Betty Tenholder; Secretary Janice Highley; Treasurer Marian Watts; Board members: Faye Zimmerman, Ruth Moles, and Ruby Lockard.

  • Don Arndt, reports that the belt buckles are in and would make a nice Christmas gifts for some tractor lovers on your list. Drop by Don’s Shop in the mornings to pick up your new red tractor buckle.
