Dates to Remember

  • Don’t forget the Threshers Dinner and annual meeting on November 12th 2006. We will meet at 1:00PM for dinner and have meetings afterward, election of officers at this time. Hot Chocolate Night November 25th 2006 5:00 PM until all of the goodies are gone.

  • Kids Day and Youth Day: Kids day was a rousing success. We had about 300 plus Fourth Graders, Head Start and Home Schooled plus adult with them on the grounds. They were eager and attentive to the demonstrations that were provided for them. The teachers and adults with them had many good things to say about their day a Frontier Village. Youth Day on the other hand was not quite as well supported. There was only one school here, Adrian School had about 80 kids here and they were a little less attentive to what we had for them to view and learn about. I want to thank all those who were on hand to help. There was cooking apple butter, making cider, blacksmithing, the museum, South Prairie Rail Road and milling of corn. I want to thank all those who took part, the ladies for the wonderful meals and their help in the ice cream parlor, church, store and school.

  • October Meeting: The biggest topic at the board meeting was Kids Day. It was great. There were over 300 students and sponsors at Frontier Village for the Day. They were well behaved and very interested in what we had to show them. We received praise from teachers and parents for the effort we put forth. The Ballard School class has already sent us letters from the children thanking us for the day. We are planning on having them again next year. Youth Day was another story; the youth were not as eager to learn from what we demonstrated, some were ill behaved. It was the consensus of the board that we not have Youth Day next year. We will try to set up some specific classes for the wood shop, sawmill, and blacksmith and see if a small number with more teachers and sponsors would be a better teaching atmosphere. Our next meeting will be November 12th for the annual election of officers, putting in place the leader for the next year. Come and help us chart a cause for the upcoming year.

  • Member news: Several members were at the Powell Gardens Harvest Festival to represent our club. They were Vic Jadlow, Charlie Eagleburger, Fred Lewis, Duane Craig, George Reed and new member Wes Storm. Most of us showed up with green tractors except George brought in a red one and Fred who had a nice selection of garden tractors. It was a small but nice show with the setting of the fall colors right on the lake. I was invited to a Tractor Cruise sponsored by the Shoal Creek Tractor Club; it started at Jasper Mo. on Oct. 14, We went south and west to Quaker Mills then north to Oronogo, then back to Jasper. Had some fun and met some new tractor people. I handed out some News Letters I hope to see some of them at our show. Of the 20 tractors there over half were our featured tractors for next year.
Anyone who has news of a show that they have attended let me know and I will list it in the newsletter.

  • Donations: The Ladies Auxiliary gave us $4,500.00 towards the loan, and $2,500.00 for utilities. Lloyd Whilhite gave $500.00 to the Charlie Fritts memorial engine barn addition. West Central Agri services gave us the seed wheat used to plant on the park this next fall. Delbert Hooper and Harley Stevens gave to the museum the piano that was used in the Johnstown School. Boy that brought back memories to me. The La Cygne KCPL plant furnished the metal used by the blacksmith on kid’s day. Thanks to all.

  • Presidents Note: Steven reminds you that any and all displays are welcome on Hot Chocolate Night. If you want to get out a tractor or two, or anything you think may spark some interest in our club bring it on.

  • Women’s Auxiliary: Don’t forget the annual potluck threshers dinner will be Sunday November 12, at 1:00 PM. bring your own service. The Auxiliary will also have a meeting following the dinner. There will be election of officers at this time. Please invite your wife or anyone interested to join us for this meeting. We welcome new members. We are asking for your help again with two-dozen cookies to serve on Hot Chocolate Night November 25th.
    Thanks, Lillian

  • Duane’s Editorial: The men of WMATMA cannot express often or loud enough how much we appreciate the tireless efforts that the Women’s Auxiliary exerts. They are the most dedicated group showing up early each morning of the show and swap meet to cook a marvelous breakfast and lunches. Then what do they do with their income from this, they pass it on to the men for maintenance and building projects. So next time you see one of these ladies give them your best. Well Done Ladies. See you at the dinner table.
